BIOGRAPHY

Darien Orr is a saxophonist from the Chicagoland area currently performing in Las Vegas. Darien’s interest in music was clear from a very young age, as he has shared his musical talent since the age 10 years old. Aside from playing saxophone, Darien performs as a keyboardist, drummer and an occasional vocalist. Darien grew up in South Holland, IL where he attended Thornwood High School.

 

While in high school, he began to develop a strong love for music and performing along with his friends. This atmosphere provided the building blocks for not only himself, but many of his other friends who have been successful in the music business. After completing high school, Darien attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he studied Music Education. With his Bachelor's degree he became an elementary school music teacher (2013 - 2017) and currently serves as a middle school band director. Darien also holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership (2017). 

 

Darien’s musical styles span across many different musical genres and all of the music he is self-composed/arranged and produced. Although he is classically trained on the saxophone, Darien fuses gospel, r&b, jazz, hip-hop, and many other genres to create his original works. Darien has just begun sharing his original music with the world with his first self produced EP, Inspired, being released in June 2019. This EP was inspired by his late brother and cover art photographer, Thomas Orr, who lost his life tragically in 2017. 

 

In June 2020, Darien released his 2nd EP, In The Making, which included both covers and original music. As a part of this project, Darien also released a music video for the album titled original, In The Making. He has also been nominated for 6 Las Vegas Black Music Awards including Rising Star, Verge Artist, Jazz Artist, Best Performer, Best Performance, and Song of the Year (In The Making).
